Welcome to the Summer of Psalms!

For the next few months, we’re embarking on a special journey: our Summer of Psalms. Each week, we will immerse ourselves in a different Psalm, approaching it as we would the very throne room of our Lord and King. Invited by the life and work of Jesus our Savior, we enter not with demands, but with humble hearts overflowing with joy and thanksgiving.

In this sacred space, we come to Father-God just as David did – opening our hearts with honesty and sincerity, making our requests known. We are learning to be utterly transparent with our King, knowing there is nothing we can hide from Him. In His presence, we freely repent and confess our deep need for Him and His unfailing love. With boldness, we approach His throne, not to demand, but to surrender and submit to His Kingdom and His perfect will. Here, we enter into profound union with Him, expressing our love and gratitude for His unwavering commitment to us.

Hiding His Word in Our Hearts

This Summer of Psalms, our desire is to truly “hide His Word in our heart.” To that end, we’re committing together to memorize three foundational Psalms: Psalm 1, Psalm 23, and Psalm 100.

  • On July 20th, during our worship service, we will stand together and recite Psalm 1.
  • On August 10th, we will recite Psalm 23.
  • And on August 31st, we will conclude by reciting Psalm 100.
Note: We will memorize and recite from the English Standard Version (ESV)

Let’s join together as a whole church – adults and children alike – to commit these beautiful Psalms to memory.

Meditate and Live the Word

Beyond memorization, we strongly encourage you to meditate deeply on these Psalms and the transformative truths they bring to our lives. Read and re-read each Psalm throughout your day – in the morning, at midday, and in the evening. Let the words, the promises, and the truths sink into your soul.

This summer, let’s covenant together to truly “R2B a people of the Word.”

Here is a little poem to start us off on this blessed journey through the Summer of Psalms:

Sun-drenched days, a time to unwind,
Uplifting verses for heart and mind.
Meditative moments, peace to embrace,
Mysteries unveiled, by God’s loving grace.
Eternity whispers, a comforting sound,
Reflection and solace, eternity found.

Open hearts ready to receive,
Faithful words, in Him we believe.

Praises ascending, pure and strong,
Sacred scriptures, where we belong.
Ancient wisdom, forever true,
Lifting spirits, fresh and anew.
Melodies divine, a gentle hymn,
Soulful solace, without and within.

Pray: Jesus, give me the wisdom to be at home with you!

Reflection Questions for the Summer of Psalms

1. The call that we “R2B a people of the Word” through meditation on the Psalms is central.
Beyond just reading, what practical steps can you take this summer to truly meditate on these Psalms—allowing them to deepen your understanding of God, transform your heart, and guide your actions?

      2. We are invited to enter the Psalms “much as we would entering into the throne room of our Lord and King.”
What does this image personally mean to you?
How might intentionally approaching Scripture this way transform your usual Bible reading habits and your relationship with God?

      3. We are memorizing Psalms 1, 23, and 100 as a church.
Beyond simply recalling the words, what specific truths or promises from these Psalms do you hope to “hide in your heart”?
How do you anticipate these memorized passages shaping your thoughts, prayers, and responses to life’s circumstances throughout the day?

      4. Being “open and honest with our King” and approaching Him “not to demand, but to surrender and submit” are key to entering union with Him.
In what areas of your life do you find it most challenging to be fully open with God? What specific situations reveal a tendency to demand rather than surrender to His will, and how might the Psalms help you grow in that surrender?
