This week, we are honored to welcome our Emeritus Pastor David as he brings us the Word! Pastor David has an incredible gift with words and a deep, infectious passion for the Book of Psalms. I am personally excited to hear him proclaim the King of Glory from Psalm 24.

Psalm 24 rightly poses crucial questions: “Who may ascend to the hill of the Lord?” and “Who is able to stand in His holy place?” As we explored in Psalm 1 last week, those who do not follow the path of the Lord—the wicked—have no standing before God, nor even in the presence of His people. The truth is, we all fall short of the glory of our God and King. So, what then shall we do?

Our response must be to humbly confess our sin and repent of our rebellion! Our hope and trust rest solely in the sacrifice of our King of Kings; the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, Jesus, the Son of God, who gave Himself for us on the cross. He cleanses us from all unrighteousness; we are washed clean in the precious blood of the Lamb!

By the sheer grace of God, our hands are made clean, and our hearts are made pure! We commit to worshipping no idols—nothing before God—and to speaking only truth. We are actively choosing the way of holiness. In this, we receive His blessing and the righteousness of His salvation! We can then boldly enter into the throne room of our King; into His presence with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. We are profoundly grateful to Him and bless His holy Name, Yahweh!

And who is this King of Glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle!

Who is this King of glory? The Lord of Heaven’s angel armies—He is our King of glory! Selah.

Pray: Yahweh God, You are the King of Glory, strong and mighty! I trust in you!

Discussion questions:

  1. Psalm 24 asks, “Who is this King of Glory?” and answers by describing Him as “strong and mighty,” the “Lord of Heaven’s angel armies.” How does truly grasping God’s immense power and sovereign authority transform your perspective on the challenges you face in your personal life, community, or the world? In what specific situations might remembering “He is the King of glory!” empower you to act with greater faith or courage?

2. “We all fall short of the Glory of our God and King,” yet by grace, we can “boldly enter into the throne room.” In your own life, what does it genuinely feel like to move from a place of recognizing your shortcomings to confidently approaching God’s presence? What practical steps or shifts in mindset help you bridge that gap, and how does this impact your daily sense of worth or security?

3. We are “choosing the way of holiness” and not worshipping “anything before God” (idols). In today’s complex world, what are some of the most subtle or powerful “idols” that compete for your primary devotion or allegiance? How does actively identifying and rejecting these idols, in favor of God, manifest in your daily decisions, priorities, and use of time and resources?
