Sukkot: The Jewish Feast of Tabernacles (Lev. 23:33-43, John 7:37-43)

Today begins the celebration of the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles (or Booths, Oct. 9-16), an important commemoration of the Israelites’ time of wandering in the wilderness, as well as a harvest festival of thanksgiving. We want to examine this final fall celebration of the Jews in order to understand how God used it in Old Testament history to call His people to learn deep lessons in communal living, which also have their application to the church and discipleship. We will even see Jesus’ participation in this festival in the Gospel of John demonstrating its true fulfillment in Him, the living water.
