The Coming of the Holy Spirit (Luke 24:44-49)
After the resurrection Jesus appeared to his disciples for forty days before his ascension. In Luke 24:44-49 we can observe how the disciples were promised three important gifts: 1. an understanding of Scriptures - which gave them clarity regarding the gospel (vv. 44-45); 2. a purpose to proclaim - which gave them a vision of how the gospel will spread to the ends of the earth (vv. 46-48); 3. the power to be witnesses - which assured them that they would not be on their own (v. 49) - and power to obey the commission Jesus gave that still applies for us today.
