High Jewish Holy Days and their meaning for us - Lev. 23:23-32, John 5:16-30
Today we are right in the middle of two of the highest Jewish holy days: Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (Sept. 25-Oct. 5), so important in the Old Testament calendar, and very symbolic of Christian meanings that were in the making. We want to examine these two fall festivals (feast of trumpets and day of atonement) in order to understand their application in Christian doctrine and discipleship. We will see their fulfillment in Jesus’ role as the incarnation of the mercy seat, the sin offering, and His own verdict as Judge of the universe — the Judge whom humanity dared to judge as “worthy of death,” but who declared His beloved creatures “forgiven” by faith in His Name.
