Prayer is the most powerful act in our universe, the most significant tool we possess. In its essence, it’s simple enough for a child to grasp. Yet, paradoxically, many of us find it profoundly difficult, unsure of how to begin or what words to use.
Let’s reflect on our prayer lives:
- Do you feel you pray sufficiently?
- Do you confidently know how and what to pray for?
- Is your prayer life primarily solitary, or do you also pray with others?
- When others pray, are you also praying in spirit?
- What is your posture when you pray? What is your plan for prayer, and what are your expectations?
- And the age-old question: why pray if God already knows everything?
At its core, prayer is simply turning our attention to God. It’s our response to His invitation to enter—or re-enter—into relationship with Him. We refocus our gaze on Him, sharing precious time in His presence. Yes, He is Almighty God, so we approach Him in humility. But as His beloved children, we may come freely, also confessing our failures and seeking His ongoing forgiveness. Once we’ve stepped into His Kingdom and done our part to restore the relationship through confession, He opens the door for us to listen and learn. He most often speaks through His Word, but also through His people, or directly to us in our minds, experiences, or encounters—if we truly have ears to hear. While it certainly takes practice, God is a patient, loving Father who continually invites us into a deeper, intimate relationship with Him.
So, why is prayer the ultimate “weapon” in our spiritual arsenal? Because praying is aligning ourselves with God’s desires. When we pray for His Kingdom to come and His will to be done, we are actively agreeing with the most powerful force in the universe! Nothing is impossible for God. The crucial distinction lies in why we are praying: Is it to achieve our own desires or His? To build our kingdom or His? When we are in right relationship with God, a world of possibilities opens up.
Pray!
